CHICAGO — Two people were killed and five others were critically injured after a crash on a Chicago expressway early Sunday, authorities said.
According to the Cook County Bureau of Administration, Patrice Dean, 44, and Daphene Monroe, 44, were killed on the Dan Ryan Expressway, WLS-TV reported. They were taken to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Five people were taken to area hospitals and were listed in critical condition, according to WMAQ-TV.

The crash happened in the express lanes of the expressway at about 2 a.m. CST, WBBM-TV reported.
It was unclear what led to the crash, but said that at least two vehicles were involved, according to WMAQ.
Express lanes on the expressway were closed but were reopened at about 9:30 a.m. CST, the television station reported.
The case remains under investigation, police said.
