TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — An Alabama woman was arrested on a charge of willful child abuse after investigators found she had burned her 18-month-old son with a lighter.
According to KTXS, 27-year-old Jaslyne Smith is accused of beating and burning her son on at least three different occasions dating back to July 1.
Authorities who obtained a search warrant for Smith’s phone discovered videos of the alleged abuse.
“In the video you can see the victim laying on the bed with tears on his face," officials said. "She lays her leg across the child and takes his right leg in her hands. She grabs a light and begins to burn the back of his lower leg.”
She was later charged with aggravated child abuse.
Smith remains in the Tuscaloosa County jail on a $60,000 bond, KTXS reported.
