San Antonio police officer suspended for throwing flashlight at cars, records say

A Texas police officer was suspended after throwing his flashlight at cars while working at the scene of a crash in San Antonio, according to disciplinary records.

According to records obtained by KSAT, San Antonio police Officer Reuben Ramirez was suspended for 30 days in January because of an incident that occurred Aug. 21, 2019.

According to the report, Ramirez threw his flashlight at a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup because the driver failed to follow his directions. Ramirez also reprimanded the driver and accused him of being intoxicated before letting him drive away, the report said.

Ramirez threw his flashlight a second time, KSAT reported, striking a Ford Escape. According to the disciplinary report, Ramirez reprimanded the woman before allowing her to drive away, the television station reported.

When the woman returned to complain about the damage caused by the flashlight, Ramirez wrote her a traffic ticket, according to the report. Ramirez’s actions led to a criminal case that was filed in municipal court, KSAT reported.

“Officer Ramirez’s actions leading to the filing of a criminal case against him did not conform to the ordinary and reasonable rules of good conduct and behavior,” the report said.

Ramirez’s suspension ended Feb. 23, according to KSAT.
