Tommy DeBarge of R&B band Switch dead at 64

Tommy DeBarge, a member of the R&B group Switch that had a string of hits during the 1970s including “There’ll Never Be,” “I Call Your Name” and “Love Over & Over Again,” has died. He was 64.

DeBarge’s sister, Etterline “Bunny” DeBarge, shared the news of the guitarist’s death in a Facebook post, sharing a video featuring a still image of Tommy DeBarge playing guitar, Fox News reported.

“Tommy has gained his wings,” Bunny DeBarge wrote.

Tommy DeBarge’s death was also reported by TMZ.

Bunny DeBarge later added another Facebook post, saying, “Rest peacefully in Heaven, Dearest Thomas DeBarge.”

Tommy DeBarge and his brother, Bobby DeBarge, were founding members of Switch. They also influenced future R&B bands, including DeBarge, a group composed of their siblings, TMZ reported.

The brothers left Switch to mentor DeBarge. Bobby DeBarge died of AIDS-related complications in 1995, the outlet reported.
