Two suspects arrested during burglary at Pittsburgh pizza shop

Two suspects were arrested during a break-in at a South Side pizza shop early Tuesday, according to police at the scene.

Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic reports both suspects were taken to the hospital following their arrests at Sola Pizza on East Carson Street shortly before 4 a.m.

Two would-be burglars were scared by multiple K-9 officers who trapped them in the basement of Sola Pizza.

“I heard the glass shatter,” said Artoro Bogali, manager of Sola Pizza. “That’s when they heard something was wrong and they called the cops.”

Police got there quickly and they said the two suspects were still there. They told Channel 11 one of the suspects attempted to leave with a garbage bag but ran back in.

The garbage bag contained money, two bags of frozen chicken and two Gatorade bottles. Police said they believe the suspects took from the register.

Officers believe the burglars tried hiding to eventually escape through a side door.

One of those suspects was being treated for a dog bite. Details about the injuries to the other suspect were not immediately available.

People who live above the shop called police to report the burglary.

Both have been charged with burglary and resisting arrest.
