Uniontown Market Robbed After Stolen Car Crashes Into Building

UNIONTOWN, Pa.,None — Police are investigating a robbery at a Uniontown market Saturday night.

Officials said burglars backed a stolen van into Byers Market sometime Saturday night after the store was closed and stole cigars and food from the store.

James Smith lives by the market and called police when he noticed what happened.

"They left the van sitting here running and they took off," Smith said.

When police showed up, the burglars were gone, but police said they found a trail of cigars and snacks leading away from the store.

Donald Arthur owns the market and said he was surprised the burglars dropped most of what they stole.

"My nephew had just left and closed the store," Arthur said. "When I pulled up, the car was already halfway out of the store."

Arthur said the popular store, which he has owned for 16 years, opened for business as usual on Monday.

"We are the small guys on the corner," Arthur said. "We usually show a lot of respect, and that's why I believe these people will be caught."

Authorities said the owner of the van didn't know someone had stolen it until he was told by police.

No arrests have been made, but police said they have several leads.
