NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — It's an ad that has people in New Kensington talking: someone wants to sell Valley High School on Craigslist.
The first problem is that the ad is a hoax. The second is the fake seller didn’t describe the school in flattering terms.
Alumnus David Szewczak said, “Apparently it's a Craigslist post that has our beloved Valley High School for sale for just over $6 million."
The ad was posted just after midnight on Thursday and says buyers can purchase the property at 703 Stevenson Blvd., or Valley Junior-Senior High School.
“I found it amusing. If it's a senior prank, it's a heck of a senior prank,” Szewczak said.
The listing says it includes a "cafeteria, gym, football field... free security equipment X-ray scanners and wands and MORE!”
School administrators said they are aware of the ad. The assistant superintendent, who is also listed as the contact seller, said he’s fielded several calls from parents and students and said he’s chalking this one up as a pretty wild prank.
Francis Young, a senior at Valley High School, said, "It's funny, it's just a joke. But can't you get in trouble for doing something like that?"
Not everyone finds it funny. The superintendent said he reached out to the district attorney about launching an investigation to find out who’s behind the joke.
