Vigil held for 19-year-old woman shot, killed in Washington

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Dozens of friends, family and community members gathered Friday evening to remember Alexis Barnett, who was gunned down Wednesday in Washington.

"It's to honor Alexis, her memory, just everyone to see how important she was as a community, to us and our family,” Barnett’s relative, Alyssa Wise, said. "If any person in the world deserved to live, it was Alexis. She was the best person I knew.”%

Police said Barnett, 19, was an innocent bystander, walking with friends around 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, when she was shot and killed. Another woman was also shot but survived. Authorities said the women were walking with a man who was the intended target.

Ten brothers and sisters mourn the loss of Barnett, who graduated from Washington High School last year, and hope for justice to be served.

“I hope they find the person responsible for shooting and killing my cousin,” Tiffany Brown, Barnett’s cousin, said.

Authorities spent four hours Thursday questioning two men in connection with the shooting, but they were not charged in Barnett’s death. However, the pair do face unrelated drug charges.
