COAL CENTER, Pa.,None — A vigil will be held Monday night at California Rotary Park for the elderly woman found stabbed to death inside of her Washington County home last week.
On Friday, police arrested two men in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 92-year-old Eveyln Stepko.
David A. McClelland, 56, faces criminal homicide, burglary and other charges in connection with the fatal stabbing, police said.
McClelland was taken into custody Friday night at about 7:30 p.m., police said.
His son, David J. McClelland, is also in police custody. McClelland, 36, is an officer with the Washington Township Police Department.
Investigators said they found a fingerprint on a latex glove inside her home. That fingerprint led them to the elder McClelland.
Washington County prosecutors said Stepko had been targeted by burglars and vandals in recent months.
District Attorney Steven Toprani said he confirmed neighbors' claims that Stepko was living in fear from prowlers and vandals, including someone who apparently cut her phone lines over the past six months at her Pike Run Drive home.
Police said they also used financial records to link the two McClelland men to the crime. Investigators said the McClelland's recently came into large sums of money.
Stepko believed in keeping cash in her home. Police recovered almost $82,000 in cash from inside her home on Monday.
Stepko's niece, Dolores Sprowls, said she heard of her aunt's death on the news.
"This is horrible," said Sprowls. "I can't believe that this happened to her. Why would you want to do that to an elderly person? She would have given anything to you, just ask her for it."
