CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — An Ohio woman’s attempt to get on the Pennsylvania Turnpike last Saturday after a deadly wrong-way crash near the Cranberry interchange ended with her facing charges.
Authorities said Dana Schesventer is accused of pulling a gun on a Cranberry Township volunteer fire police captain who was directing traffic around the fatal crash, which shut down the turnpike for hours.
“She pulled up. The two had words and a gun was pulled,” Cranberry Township police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said.
Police said the woman and first responder got into a heated exchange. According to the criminal complaint, as she was turning her truck around, the fire captain kicked the back of it, so she put the truck in park and grabbed her gun.
Schesventer screamed obscenities at the captain, telling him she would “take him on,” and moments later, got out of her truck holding a pistol at her side, the complaint stated.
Schesventer and the captain told police they felt threatened, but only Schesventer was charged in connection with the incident.
“Apparently, she told officers that she felt threatened or feared for her safety and that’s why she drew the weapon. We would encourage anybody who fears for their safety, if they are able, to get out of that situation and call 911,” Mascellino said.
