Worker Burned, Another Injured At U.S. Steel Plant In Braddock

BRADDOCK, Pa,,None — A worker at the U.S. Steel Corp.'s Edgar Thomson Plant was burned by molten steel.

The incident happened Thursday at the Braddock plant. The worker's name and condition have not been released.

U.S. Steel said in a statement that two workers were injured in an incident involving "remotely operated locomotives, one of which was moving an iron sub ladle."

Spokeswoman Courtney Boone said federal medical privacy laws prevent her from being more specific about the injuries.

The statement said one worker was being treated at a hospital, while the other was being treated by the plant's medical staff.

An Allegheny County dispatch supervisor said the hospital in question is UPMC Mercy, which has a burn unit.

U.S. Steel's website said the plant features two blast furnaces which produce liquid iron that is refined to create steel slabs. The slabs are sent to another facility where they are rolled into sheet metal products.
