Heinz Field preparing for Steelers, WPIAL games

The grounds crew at Heinz Field takes pride in what they do, the Steelers organization says it has the best turf in the NFL.

"Sometimes, they'll be out here at 2 a.m. painting the field if they know there's going to be snow or rain the next day, and we're starting to get into that time of year,” said Nick Sero, of the Heinz Field grounds crew.

Channel 11 was there this Wednesday afternoon when crews pulled the tarps out with rain and possibly snow showers headed our way.

"That'll be the last time anybody sees this grass until a little before kickoff,” Sero said.

The grounds crew really has their work cut out for them after Thursday night's matchup.

TRENDING NOW:

On Saturday, the WPIAL championships are at Heinz Field and so, after that, the grounds crew will have to lay all new turf for the Steelers next home game which is next Sunday

"We're going to totally tear up the field, sideline to sideline. And start fresh!" Sero said.

The focus now is Thursday night. You can watch the game right here on Channel 11.

Comedian Billy Gardell is in town for a benefit and stopped at Heinz Field.

"My wife said you did a good deed so you can stay home and go to the Steelers and the Pens so the Pens won last night, I'm hoping we smoke Tennessee on Thursday!" said Gardell.
