Pittsburgh native reportedly hired as new head coach of Dallas Cowboys

DALLAS — From Pittsburgh to the NFL to unemployment and now back at the top, Mike McCarthy has had plenty of hills to climb in his coaching career. Now, he’s reportedly signed as the new head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.

McCarthy was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and his father was a firefighter and police officer, according to the New York Times. McCarthy also worked at Pitt for a time as an assistant coach.

He was head coach of the Green Bay Packers and led that team to a win in Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

McCarthy replaces Jason Garrett as head coach.
