This week, Apple released its iOS 15.2 and iPad OS 15.2 updates adding an App Privacy Report, improvements to the Hide My Email feature and an iPhone feature you should turn on before you die. The new feature, called the Legacy Contact, allows you to choose who will be allowed to access most of what is in your Apple iCloud account when you die. Your legacy contact will be able to access your photos, messages, email, notes, files, contacts, calendars, downloaded apps and device backups.
Your legacy contact will not have access to passwords stored in your iCloud keychain and those used for licensed media (like a movie) you may have purchased. Your contact will not be able to send messages or emails, either.
Here’s how to choose a legacy contact:
· You must download iOS 15.2 for your iPhone or iPad.
· Go to Settings, then to General, then to Software Update.
· Follow the prompts given when you click on Software Update.
· Next, go to Settings and tap on your name at the top of the screen.
· Select Password & Security, then look toward the bottom of the screen to find Legacy Contact.
· Once you get there, you’ll be able to add up to five legacy contacts.
