PITTSBURGH — Duolingo announced it has passed one million paid users as part of its Duolingo Plus subscription product according to a press release from the company. The language-learning platform also announced it hired Matt Skaruppa to serve as the company's first chief financial officer. Stephen Chen will also join the company as its first general counsel.
According to the release, paid subscribers have risen 200 percent year-over-year which has made the company the top-grossing education app worldwide for 2019 as it cited SensorTower data. In December 2019, the company was reportedly valued at $1.5 billion the release said.
