Levin ownership ready to flip switch on 2,500 solar panels at distribution center, headquarters

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, Pa. — After first putting a solar installation on the company’s store in Monroeville in 2004 and adding them to the roof of his own home last year, Robert Levin and his partners at Levin Furniture are ready to go big with the renewable energy source on their 300,000-square-foot headquarters and distribution center in Westmoreland County.

The 100-year-old company will flip the switch to a new energy future this coming week as it starts to operate its Smithton warehouse on the solar energy proposed by its 2,500 solar panels recently installed, which is projected to generate 1 megawatt of power, or around 70% of Levin Furniture’s energy needs.

The company will hold a “Flip the Switch” ceremony at the facility on Nov. 10 at 11:00 a.m. It will be the company’s fifth solar project.
