PITTSBURGH — John Graf knows well enough about the historically challenging circumstances of opening the new 96-room Comfort Inn & Suites Pittsburgh North Shore on East Ohio Street that he acknowledges that his own hotel nearby remains closed down by them.

Yet with its completion delayed by more than a year, contractual obligations in place, and a Covid-19 pandemic still ongoing despite new vaccines progressing Graf and his partners with Arrakis, LLC have soldiered on to open the new hotel expected to eventually serve an important role in helping to rejuvenate the North Side business district of East Ohio Street.

“The way I look at it is a bad market. I think everyone knows that,” said Graf, the owner of the nearby Priory Hotel and the Grand Hall who is the management partner of the hotel’s ownership group.
