Pittsburgh-area robotics/AI proposal named as finalist in ‘Build Back Better Regional Challenge’

PITTSBURGH — The Southwestern Pennsylvania New Economy Coalition’s proposal was chosen Monday as one of 60 finalists as part of the American Rescue Plan’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge, which offers up to $100 million in funding to advance a regional industry.

The proposal for the Pittsburgh region aims to “promote economic development by growing the region’s robotics and artificial intelligence sector,” according to the announcement from the U.S. Economic Development Administration.

“For the Pittsburgh region, this means further leveraging our world-leading capabilities in robotics and AI, upon which our proposal is centered,” said Allegheny Conference CEO Stefani Pashman in a statement. “We believe that these have the potential to create and spread opportunity, jobs and prosperity for all across every part of the 10-county footprint, which will accelerate post-pandemic economic recovery efforts.”
