SomeraRoad gets planning vote for 246-unit apartment project at SouthSide Works

PITTSBURGH — SomeraRoad has received approval from the Pittsburgh Planning Commission for what’s likely to be the largest new development at the SouthSide Works in years on one of its last and largest undeveloped parcels.

Designed by Lawrenceville-based Desmone Architects, the project is the SouthSide Works Riverfront Apartments, a 246-unit, seven-story apartment project totaling more than 350,000 square feet along the riverfront on a 1.8-acre site which planning materials indicate calls for a landmark building.

While the project faced some scrutiny in how it will relate to its riverfront site next to the South Shore Riverfront Park and the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, the commission voted the project through unanimously, with Commissioner Rachel O’Neil recusing her vote and two others not in attendance.
