United, Southwest adding flights from Pittsburgh to Florida

PITTSBURGH — Multiple airlines have announced plans to add flights from Pittsburgh to several Florida cities over the next few weeks to accommodate an increase in leisure travel demand from the region.

According to the Blue Sky News, a publication of the Pittsburgh International Airport, United Airlines will add a nonstop flight to Ft. Myers, Florida beginning on Dec. 17 and is set to offer the service until April 5. The airline previously planned to terminate these flights on Jan. 10 but will now be extending the service through the start of spring. Southwest Airlines began offering direct flights to Ft. Myers and also to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida last week, according to Blue Sky News.

Ultra-low-cost budget carriers are also launching new service routes from Pittsburgh.
