PITTSBURGH,None — WPXI Channel 11 News has been selected as a recipient of three 2010 Edward R. Murrow Awards for outstanding achievement in electronic journalism.
Channel 11 News was awarded for Region 11 in the categories of Best Newscast, Best Breaking News Coverage and Overall Excellence. Along with Pennsylvania, other Region 11 states include New York and New Jersey.
"The Murrow Awards are among the most prestigious in the broadcast news business," said Ray Carter, Vice President and General Manager of Channel 11 WPXI-TV. "In a year that was filled with many major local news stories, these awards are a testament to the many talented people who work day in and day out to serve our viewers and bring them the best news coverage possible."
The Radio-Television News Directors Association & Foundation (RTNDA) has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the excellence that Edward R. Murrow made standard for the electronic news profession.
With the acceptance of these regional awards, WPXI Channel 11 News is automatically in competition for national Edward R. Murrow Awards in the categories of Best Newscast, Best Breaking News Coverage and Overall Excellence. The RTNDA Board of Directors will select the national Edward R. Murrow Award winners from among other regional finalists.
