Inspectors Find Dead Mice, Droppings, Cockroaches In Mt. Lebo Restaurant

MOUNT LEBANON. Pa.,None — The Allegheny County Health Department issued a consumer alert for a Mount Lebanon restaurant on Wednesday after inspectors found numerous violations.

According to the report, more than 1,200 mouse droppings were found in the kitchen of the Sichuan House. Inspectors said they were on the floor and shelves where food was stored.

Inspectors said they also found four dead mice on glue traps and about 30 dead cockroaches.

The head of food safety at the Health Department said this is the first time the restaurant has had a problem so they issued a warning instead of a violation.

"This place has an exterminator and no recent history so we decided to put up a consumer alert," food safety Chief Steve Steingart said.

Channel 11's Robin Taylor visited the Sichuan House on Thursday and found that the yellow consumer alert sticker, which is supposed to warn the public, was covered up. According to Health Department officials, that is a major violation.

Taylor reported that she spoke to the acting manager of the restaurant who said, "It shouldn't have been covered up."

Health department officials said they do not take the violation lightly and may take the Sichuan House to court over the matter because consumers have the right to know about any concerns over food safety.

The Health Department is scheduled to revisit the restaurant on Friday. Officials said if everything is cleaned up, the consumer alert will be lifted.
