2 hospitalized after head-on crash in northbound lanes of Route 51

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — Two vehicles crashed head-on early Sunday morning as one of them traveled in the wrong direction on Route 51 in Aliquippa, officials said.

One of the drivers was taken to Allegheny General Hospital. The other was taken to Sewickley Hospital.

Police said one of the vehicles was being driven southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 51 before the crash, which happened near the Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge, 

A sheriff's deputy who was responding to the accident crashed into a Jersey barrier while swerving to avoid the wreckage. The deputy was not seriously hurt.

Channel 11's Carly Flynn Morgan spoke to the wife of the driver that was driving in the correct direction, and identified her husband as Jasmond Cain. According to the man's wife, he is suffering from a broken tibia and will require surgery.

No information on the driver of the car has been released.
