ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A groundbreaking ceremony was held for five new sports courts in Elizabeth Township on Saturday.

The courts will include two youth basketball courts and three pickleball courts. They will be built in Mount Vernon Fields.

Three major groups were involved in getting the project to happen including local youth sports organizations, Elizabeth Township officials and Olympus Energy.

“It took a lot to get going,” said Chris Thoma, Elizabeth Township commissioner, “It was nice to get all three entities together on this project.”

Pickleball is becoming a popular sport among seniors and the group wanted to make sure all age groups were taken into account.
