Loaded gun confiscated at Pittsburgh International Airport main security checkpoint

PITTSBURGH — At 5:52 this morning, TSA officers found a loaded 9 mm handgun in a passenger’s backpack at the main security checkpoint at Pittsburgh International Airport.

According to the Allegheny County Police Department, the 23-year-old passenger had a concealed carry permit from West Virginia.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified and charges are not expected to be filed by Allegheny County police, police said.

The firearm is in the possession of Allegheny County police.

Passengers who bring firearms into an airport checkpoint can face federal civil fines from the Transportation Security Administration, up to $10,000. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $13,910.
