ATI employees hold picket line outside Midland facility as contract talks stall

MIDLAND, Pa. — The main drag of Midland in Beaver County was lined with signs and supporters Monday for the local united steelworkers who were walking the picket line for the second day in a row.

Roughly 250 Allegheny Technologies Inc. employees were locked out of the company’s Beaver County plant Saturday amid a standstill over a new contract.

“We want what is due to us. We want what's fair - a fair working contract,” USW 1212 Local President Tony Tipsic said.

Even with the union workers on the outside protesting, the company said it’s continuing production, bringing in nonunion employees to man the lines until they can resolve the contract issue.

Workers told Channel 11 News that the stalemate has nothing to do with money, but rather health benefits.

Protesters said they'll man the picket lines for as long as it takes even though it's going to hurt their bottom line.

“I have family to support and take care of, and I'm close to being within a few years of being able to retire. I'm afraid of losing it all,” worker Edward Liberatore said.
