Beaver County convenience store robbed, suspect in custody

ROCHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Beaver County convenience store clerk is breathing easier after police arrested the man she says robbed the store while she was working earlier this week.

“He was like I’m robbing you and I said, ‘Are you effing serious?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, if you don’t give me the money in the register I’m going to shoot you,’” Marathon convenience store clerk Melissa Kump said while describing the exchange that played out just before 5 p.m. Monday at her store on Virginia Avenue in Rochester Township.

It was all captured on exclusive surveillance footage.

Beaver Valley Regional Police say the masked man seen in the video is Michael Miller, from Ohio.

“It looked like he had a weapon in his pocket, so I wasn’t willing to find out if he had one,” Kump said.

But investigators say that weapon was just Miller’s hand in the shape of a gun.

Kump pressed a hidden button behind the counter to call for police before opening the cash register.

She says Miller only made out with a little over $100.

“I gave him the money, but he got hardly anything because I had just paid out skill tickets, so he didn’t get very much,” Kump explained.

Wednesday, Beaver Valley Regional Police arrested Miller, and Channel 11 was there to question him as he was taken to jail.

Miller said he regretted his actions.

“Yes, absolutely I regret it,” Miller said. “Of course, I regret doing it. Man, I didn’t want to do it. I’m on the streets.”

Miller went on to say he feels bad about what he did, “Hell yeah, worse than bad.”

Miller is being held in the Beaver County Jail unable to post $100,000 bail.
