Some Beaver County businesses cleaned, sanitized, prepared to open despite red phase

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — Officials with Kelly’s Roadside Tavern in Bridgewater said they have cleaned, sanitized and prepared to open despite Beaver County still in the red phase.

“It’s very, very scary because it’s going to take that economical structure away from our county,” general manager Amanda Yearage said.

Like most restaurants, the tavern has relied on carryout orders to make money. But with surrounding counties reopening Friday, they fear they will lose even those customers.

“It’s really a Beaver County issue, and we are united behind this charge,” state Rep. Josh Kail said. “We are working on a bill to force the governor to engage with local officials and give local officials a say.”

House Bill 327 is up for a hearing in Harrisburg on Wednesday and would allow county officials to determine when its businesses can operate.

“People need relief now and legislatively we can do things. We can pass bills, but the process takes time and it should take time. We want to make sure things are done the right way, but the time is ripe for the governor to engage with these local officials,” Kail said.
