BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — A Butler County student accused of having a gun on school property is in custody.
Knoch School District Superintendent Dr. Melissa Grantz shared a letter with parents, guardians and employees on Tuesday, saying the investigation into the student began on Monday.
Grantz said the school was notified that a member of the boys’ soccer team allegedly had a gun at a local athletic club. The district then began its own investigation to learn if that gun was ever on school property.
“Although the investigation is ongoing, earlier today, the District obtained information indicating that the student did possess the firearm on school property. As such, appropriate discipline action is being taken to make sure that the student does not return to the District. It is our understanding that the student has been taken into custody,” Grantz said.
Grantz said the stressed that all reports involving weapons are taken seriously and said the district is working with police and will participate in juvenile proceedings.
