Grocery store prices continue to rise, but there are things you can do to squeeze every dollar.
Consumer adviser Clark Howard shares some easy ways to save.
Making a list based on what deals are available before you shop is key.
Apps like Flipp and Grocery Pal let you search for deals in specific stores while you build your shopping list.
Howard’s top store for guaranteed savings are Aldi, Lidl, Walmart and Costco These stores use their own label, which means less money spent on advertising, and more savings for you.
And if you don’t like something, Aldi will let you return it and replace it for free.
Another way to stretch your dollar at Aldi is to buy in bulk.
At Lidl, most of the products are private label, One big difference is, you have to use the app to get the best deals.
At Walmart, the prices for canned and packaged goods are cheap compared to traditional supermarkets.
Another place to save is Costco. People think you have to buy in bulk, like a huge bag of rice. But you don’t have to buy everything in bulk. For example, you can buy a couple of bottles of sauce, which usually has a long shelf life, and save a lot of money.
To find the best deals, look for prices ending in “97.” That means it’s on final discount.
If you do nothing else, Howard says to buy store brands only and buy what’s on sale.
