Convicted killer's attorneys want more info on death row living conditions

GREENE COUNTY, Pa. — Attorneys for a convicted killer plan to research the living conditions on death row before they attempt to challenge his death sentence.

Ricky Smyrnes, 29, was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Jennifer Daugherty in February 2010. The mentally challenged woman was killed by six Greensburg roommates.

According to Channel 11's news exchange partners at TribLIVE, his attorneys want more information about the day-to-day life on death row.

They have filed a motion to overturn his death sentence, and argue Smyrnes’ rights are being violated because he spends 23 hours a day in solitary confinement at the state prison in Greene County where he is being held.
