Crews removing crashed plane at Beaver Co. Airport

BEAVER COUNTY, Pa. — Crews are working to remove a plane that crashed into a wooded area near the Beaver County Airport Friday.

Investigators said the plane crashed shortly after taking off, not far from the runway.

Beaver County Sheriff George David said it appeared the pilot was going for a test flight when he noticed a problem with the engine.

“When he took off, the motor started sputtering. He turned around to get back where he started and he almost made it,” said David. “He couldn't get where he wanted to go, so he put it down in the woods where he felt safe.”

The pilot and a passenger, who have not been identified, were not injured in the crash.
