Driver arrested after car flies off road, crashes in North Versailles

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — A person is in custody after a car flew off a road in North Versailles and went over a hillside.

“I seen it and was like holy crap!” Rob Yocca told Channel 11.

Yocca immediately checked his surveillance cameras when he heard about the crash in front of his business, along Rt. 148 near Crooked Run Road.

The man is seen on that video driving his car, swerving into oncoming traffic, then speeding up Route 148. The then flips over and crashes right into the pole where the camera was mounted.

“I was like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe he’s alive. I’m always afraid to park near the highway because I know people fly off the road there,” he added.

Police tell Channel 11 that the man driving the car wasn’t hurt, but was taken to the hospital to get checked out.

Officers took the driver straight to jail because there was a prior warrant for his arrest. According to sources, officers believe he was drunk, which is what Yocca was told yesterday.

“Saw him come up and he was staggering and that’s what he was told that they had a warrant for this arrest and he was drunk,” Yocca said.

It’s nowhere near the first time that Yocca says he’s seen a crash on this stretch of Route 148. He actually installed the camera system to catch the constant accidents, then gave that video to the police.

Now, after witnessing yet another accident, he’s asking PennDOT to make a change to the road.

“It’s like a speedway coming up here. If they could slow them down or have somebody sitting here once in a while to slow people down,” he said.

A PennDot spokesperson tells Channel 11 that there have been 27 crashes in that stretch of 148 since 2020.
