UPPER ST. CLAIR, Pa. — Upper Saint Clair police arrested a man after they say he sexually assaulted a woman dressed as the Easter Bunny at South Hills Village Mall.
“This is horrible. I can’t believe this would happen at our local mall. It’s the Easter Bunny,” South Hills native Jenn Herrig told Channel 11.
Officers responded to the mall and spoke to the woman who was dressed as the Easter Bunny. She told them that Bera came up to her and began asking questions. Then, according to police, he assaulted her by groping her chest and body.
The assistant for the Easter Bunny told investigators that Bera asked her if the Bunny was “a girl or a boy.”
“It’s gross. That’s not the kind of activity that should be happening in our township, not at all,” another local, Logan Wells, told Channel 11.
Mall security showed police officers the security video that faced the Easter display, where police say you can see Bera touching the costume’s head several times, then the chest area.
Later that afternoon, investigators found Bera sleeping inside the AMC theater, and when officers were arresting him, he allegedly said, “It’s a doll, right? By mistake my hand touched her if it’s a lady.”
He then allegedly said, “If I did not watch a movie here, I wouldn’t have been caught.”
“All kinds of people would have seen this. If I would have been there with my son, I would have just been appalled. We would have gotten out of line and had to leave,” Herrig added.
Police say Bera is not from Upper Saint Clair, and they found a New Jersey driver’s license in his car. He is being held in jail on a $10,000 bond.
