Greensburg business struggling with supply prices as inflation rises

GREENSBURG, Pa. — The cost of inflation is trickling down to just about everybody, from you as the consumer to the vendors supplying materials, and the small businesses getting stuck with the costs.

Pit Take BBQ in Greensburg says prices are increasing from the meat they serve down to even the lids on containers — those have doubled in price just within the last week.

Not only do they run the business six days a week but they also do big catering events, so it’s become harder to even give predicted prices because they are fluctuating so much. They’re doing everything they can to keep that from hitting the customer.

“We see it across the board every week — it’s every couple days we spend a lot more time managing our costs, our vendors, prices of things,” owner Michael Diethorn said.

Pit Take says it’s not only rising prices causing difficulties but also dealing with staffing shortages post-pandemic.

“We’re doing everything we can to not raise the prices of things. And we know inevitably that’s going to have to happen so we try to maintain a high level of quality, consistency and guest atmosphere here,” Diethorn said.
