Hazmat crews respond to tanker spill in Collier Twp.

COLLIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Hazmat crews quickly responded to the scene of a tanker spill Wednesday afternoon in Collier Township.

Authorities said a tanker carrying highly flammable liquid petroleum gas crashed and began leaking at the intersection of Noblestown Road and Prestley Avenue near Interstate 79 just before noon.

Noblestown Road in the area of the spill remained closed while crews worked to clear the scene. The road was reopened at 5:30 p.m.

Some nearby buildings and about 10 homes were evacuated, though the leaking substance was evaporating rapidly as it hit the ground, officials said. Authorities haven't said when the evacuated people will be able to return to their homes or work.

No one was sickened or injured in the incident.
