PITTSBURGH — It was a phone call Saturday morning that changed Sherry Bowra’s life and that of her large, tightknit family. Her niece’s house on McClure Avenue in Pittsburgh was on fire, and three of her family members didn’t make it out.

“It’s just terrible. It’s just terrible because this family has been through death all summer,” Bowra said.
Thirteen people lived in the house, most of whom were able to escape, but two children didn’t make it out. The medical examiner identified the third victim as Dijion Hutchinson, 19.
But Bowra’s neighbors and other community members are rallying around the family, helping to pay for funeral expenses and clothing items for the children who survived.
“We appreciate everything that y’all are doing,” Bowra said.
The American Red Cross is also helping the family and released this statement:
“Our hearts go out to those affected by the tragic events. We remain committed to the Pittsburgh community and will work with emergency officials and local partners to ensure that immediate needs are met in a way that honors the privacy of those we serve.”
Pittsburgh city fire marshals are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
