PITTSBURGH — Short-term traffic restrictions will begin Monday underneath the Fort Duquesne Bridge and its associated ramps in Pittsburgh.

The intermittent lane restrictions will be controlled by flaggers from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays through mid-November in the following locations:

  • Tony Dorsett Drive between North Shore Drive and Reedsdale Street
  • Reedsdale Street between Mazeroski Way and Art Rooney Avenue

The daily lane closures will accommodate steel repair location work underneath the bridge structure. The work is a component of a $12.17 million preservation project for the bridge and nearby ramps.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced the upcoming restrictions and reminded motorists to keep safety in mind while traveling through active work zones. “Please stay alert and drive cautiously – safety is everyone’s responsibility,” the agency said in a statement.

While most traffic impacts are planned during off-peak hours and non-major event calendar days, PennDOT noted that certain phases will require overnight and weekend closures and detours. Future plans call for a one-week closure and detour of the I-279 left-hand off-ramp to the North Shore at Exit 1B, alongside an anticipated two-week closure and detour of westbound Reedsdale Street. Offline construction tasks will take place outside of major events.

The Fort Duquesne Bridge Preservation Project is scheduled for completion in fall 2027.
