Local business, housing complex continue to struggle after pipes burst in late December

PITTSBURGH — The owner of Bicycle Heaven said water was gushing out of this front door up to his shins on Christmas Eve after a pipe burst flooding several showrooms -- and racking up thousands in damages.

“Even before I got in the building the water was pouring out the door, it’s just terrible,” said Craig Morrow, the owner of Bicycle Heaven.

Bike after bike will have to be removed from the first floor showroom.

“Every room all the bikes will need to be removed they need to be detailed there is cardboard moisture and water on the floors,” Morrow said.

Morrow says he is still waiting for a plumber to arrive and for his insurance to access all of the damage but was told he may be on the line for thousands.

“She told me that I had over $100,000 in damage maybe even $200,000,” Morrow said.

Unfortunately, Morrow isn’t the only one trying to get answers about his repairs. Across town, residents in a West Mifflin housing complex say they too experienced a Christmas Eve pipe burst.

“After the storm, the pipes froze underneath our apartment complex our row of housing,” said the tenant.

Afraid to show her face on television, the tenant said once the initial burst was under control, she and her neighbors noticed they had no running water to which management provided bottled water but no timeline for repairs.

“We have been here without water for two weeks with no running water unable to wash our bodies, wash clothes, do the dishes,” she said.

Her neighbor says in her apartment the situation is much worse because the burst caused damage to her flooring.

“I have water coming out of my floor, I have holes and cracks, and they haven’t fixed anything,” the neighbor said.

Channel 11 News reached out to ARCHO, the owners of Mon View Heights, but they did not return our call.

As for Bicycle Heaven, they have temporarily closed their doors to the public and began a GoFundMe to help cover the repairs.
