SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man is facing charges after police say he attacked his co-worker with a wrench at a Westmoreland County pizza shop.
According to a criminal complaint, the attack happened after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Fox’s Pizza on Sewickley Avenue in Sewickley Township.
Investigators arrived to find the victim at a nearby volunteer fire department in a neck brace and with apparent injuries to his face. The victim told police he was hit with a closed fist and a wrench.
A witness told police that the victim was eating pizza when another man, Gavin Lancaster, entered the restaurant and punched him in the head and face. Lancaster then left the restaurant and yelled for the victim to “fight him like a man,” but later returned with a wrench, which he hit the victim in the head with.
The witness told police it was an unprovoked attack. Lancaster also works at the pizza shop, but was not working at the time of the incident.
The victim was first taken to a hospital in an ambulance, then was flown to Pittsburgh for further treatment.
Lancaster now faces charges of aggravated assault and simple assault. He had left the scene before police arrived and is not yet in custody, according to court records.
