Multiple people hurt in crash that broke car in half, shut down I-79 in Washington County for hours

Multiple people were injured in a crash along I-79 in Washington County Friday morning.

The call for the three-car crash at the 31.5 mile marker came in around 8:17 a.m.

Pennsylvania State troopers said the driver of a Hyundai Elantra lost control going southbound and crossed the large grass media, going straight into oncoming traffic and hitting a Toyota Corolla head-on.

The Hyundai broke in half mid-air, with the front end continuing on and hitting a guiderail and pickup truck.

Emergency dispatchers said one person was ejected and multiple people were taken to a hospital.

All lanes between the Laboratory exit and the Lone Pine/Amity exit were closed, but have since reopened.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash.
