National Council of Aging calls for stronger protections from online scams for seniors in Pittsburgh

As scams across our area become more complicated, the city is launching a new way to help older adults avoid becoming victims.

The “National Council on Aging” brought tech experts from across our area together to push for accountability from tech companies and stronger protections from lawmakers.

The event was held at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

“It’s important to know that it’s not necessarily their fault if they get scammed. The narrative has been, be smart, do not click on links you’re not supposed to, but the problem is that there are really sophisticated scams out there,” Jewish Community Center Director of Senior Centers Hayley Krebs said.

The “Jewish Community Center” is one of seven sites across the county hosting this event.
