Students have been learning remotely ever since. Now, the district hopes a brand new hire will make getting back to normal easier.

District officials are calling the new position the “clerk of the works.” Tuesday, the board hired David Macioce to fill the job. He’s the president of Macson Corporation and lives in the district. He’s charged with observing ongoing demolition and cleanup.
The goal is to bring kids back to in-person class this school year.
“That’s the goal. That’s the goal. There are so many factors,” Superintendent Keith Konyk said. “In my mind, there is no substitute for being in-person.”
The sooner, the better for students like Brianna Johnston.
“Honestly, I think it’s worse than the pandemic,” she said when asked about virtual learning. “It’s just really not good. It’s so easy to lose track of time.”
Konyk tells Channel 11 there is a piece of equipment under the auditorium that’s responsible for powering the school. Crews will have access to it tomorrow and its condition will give them a better idea of a potential timetable for return.
