Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership shares updates about recent spring cleaning efforts

PITTSBURGH — In April, Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey held a press conference outlining “spring cleaning” efforts his office would be undertaking in tandem with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership.

On Thursday, the PDP shared further details of what the mayor’s office and its teams have accomplished thus far.

According to the PDP, the two entities have since increased the frequency of street sweeping and morning and afternoon cleanings downtown, specifically on Smithfield Street, as well as weekly scheduled maintenance of 12 alleys. The city’s Department of Public Works will be installing a permanent 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. crew specifically to address issues in the Central Business District. The PDP said that the DPW has so far removed over 35 construction signs downtown, in addition to broken sandbags and other obstructions on sidewalks and accessibility ramps.
