PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools launched a new online dashboard Thursday to track district progress on its long-term strategic initiatives.
The Future-Ready Plan Department Milestones Dashboard provides public quarterly updates on major deliverables and administrative decisions across district departments.
The school board approved the Future-Ready Plan on May 27. The strategy seeks to align academic programming, staffing, resources, transportation and facilities to create a consistent student experience.
Major school reorganizations and program transitions under the plan are scheduled to begin in the 2027–2028 school year.
Over the summer, administrative teams began translating the approved document into operational structures for staffing, academic programming, facilities, enrollment, transportation and communications.
Summer preparations included cross-functional workforce planning, the creation of school-based budget tools and the development of educational specifications for specialty learning spaces. District staff also conducted a feasibility study for Northview Elementary and planned programming for Gifted and special education services.
Wayne N. Walters, superintendent of Pittsburgh Public Schools, noted that approving the plan was only the initial step in a multiyear effort.
“Approval of the Future-Ready Plan was an important milestone, but it also marked the beginning of the detailed work required to bring the plan to life,” Walters said. “This dashboard gives our families, staff, Board and community another way to see that work unfold, understand what is happening across the District and track our progress as we prepare for the transitions ahead.”
District officials designed the dashboard to highlight major operational decisions and key deliverables rather than list every daily administrative task. Walters emphasized that public tracking remains central to the implementation effort.
“Our commitment is not simply to implement the Future-Ready Plan, but to make the implementation process visible,” Walters said. “Families and staff should be able to understand where we are, what comes next and how the many pieces of this work connect. This dashboard is another tool for ensuring that accountability and transparency remain central throughout implementation.”

Pittsburgh Public Schools will update the milestone dashboard on a quarterly basis. District officials will continue tracking departmental progress on the public portal leading into the major school and program transitions scheduled for the 2027–2028 academic year.
