Pittsburgh Public Schools releases statement on shooting following high school football game

Shooting Outside High School Football Game Three teens were shot after a high school football game on Pittsburgh’s South Side.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Public Schools is responding following a shooting that occurred after a high school football game on Thursday evening.

Several fights broke out outside of Cupples Stadium on the South Side before shots rang out shortly before 10 p.m.

Two teen boys and a teen girl were hit by gunfire. They were all taken to a hospital and are in stable condition.

Police said the suspect fled the scene and has not been arrested.

On Friday Morning, Pittsburgh Public Schools released a statement regarding the shooting:

“Pittsburgh Public Schools is deeply concerned by the violence that occurred Thursday evening on the South Side following a football game at Cupples Stadium.

“The game had concluded, and the incident occurred outside of the stadium. As the situation unfolded, Pittsburgh Public Schools School Safety personnel immediately placed the stadium into Secure Mode, restricting entry and exit to help ensure the safety of students, staff and spectators who remained inside. School Safety worked in coordination with responding law enforcement until it was determined that the stadium could safely return to normal operations.

“Our thoughts are with the young people who were injured, their families, and all of the students, staff and community members impacted by this deeply troubling incident.

“The safety and well-being of our students remains our highest priority. We are grateful to the Pittsburgh Police officers and other public safety personnel who were present and responded immediately. The District will continue to work closely with our public safety partners and will make appropriate supports available to students and staff affected by the incident.”
