PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s newest concert hall is putting the final touches together before welcoming music fans.
“Pittsburgh has a great set of concert venues already, but there’s always room to attract new artists to the market,” Live Nation Pittsburgh Market President Tom Loudermilk said.
Inside Citizens Live at the Wylie, you’ll find a 4,000-capacity venue that pays tribute to the people and places that helped shape Pittsburgh.
For decades, Wylie Avenue was a happening place in the Hill District.
But in the late 1950s, when the Civic Arena and Crosstown Boulevard were built, thousands of Black residents were forced to move.
“My hope is that when residents of the Hill come here and see the place for the first time they feel like we’ve done a good job of honoring their history and everything that took place before,” Loudermilk said.
It cost $64 million to build and created 350 jobs, with a third of those jobs filled by Hill District residents.
Plus, for every ticket sold, Live Nation will give $2 to the Greater Hill District Neighborhood Reinvestment Fund over the next 10 years.
“It was really important for us to try to keep all of the promises that we made,” Loudermilk said.
So far, the Wylie has booked around 35 shows through the end of the year.
The shows in October will welcome performers with strong Pittsburgh ties: Role Model, Wiz Khalifa and Styx.
