PITTSBURGH — New Kids on the Block drew fans to Consol Energy Center Tuesday, along with a suspected counterfeiter.
Burrell Dickerson, 39, of New York, allegedly assaulted two off-duty city police officers as they tried to arrest him outside the concert Tuesday night.
Dickerson is accused of selling counterfeit T-shirts without a license.
When the officers attempted to take him into custody, he allegedly threw punches at them.
Vendor Jimmy Coen, who owns Yinzers in the Strip District, is glad police cracked down on the counterfeit dealer.
“The counterfeiters are tough. They do hurt business,” said Coen.
He said local law enforcement and officials from the NHL and NFL regularly come to his Penn Avenue store to ensure unauthorized merchandise isn’t being sold, but counterfeiters often sell their wares outside major sporting events.
The off-duty officers involved in Tuesday’s incident were hired by the concert promoter to be on the lookout for counterfeit merchandise.
