17-year-old dead after stabbing in Schenley Park

PITTSBURGH — The Allegheny County Medical examiner says 17-year-old Brandon Thomas died after he was stabbed in the chest. Pittsburgh Police say officers were called to Schenley Park right before 12:30 Thursday morning.

Pitt Police say there were numerous teenagers at the stabbing scene and that authorities had found “evidence of a party.”

WPXI Sources provided us with pictures and video of the area before it had been cleaned up. In them, you can see empty alcohol bottles and containers.

Officers and medics found the 17-year-old by Panther Hollow Lake, under the bridge.

Thomas was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Authorities say he later died at the hospital.

Pitt Police had put out an alert about the fatal stabbing - letting students and faculty know but say Brandon Thomas is not affiliated with Pitt.

People who use the bridge are on high alert after hearing the news.

Caitlyn Lovett and Andrew Karle said, “Kind of shocked, honestly. (Honestly, disbelief) Yeah, like we both went to Pitt and I can’t recall anything like that every happening as Students that’s crazy cause it’s right in our old backyard.”

Authorities have said this fatal stabbing appears to be an isolated incident and that there isn’t a threat to Pitt’s campus.

Pittsburgh police have not made any arrests yet.
