Shot fired during carjacking at Lawrenceville gas station

LAWRENCEVILLE, Pa. — Authorities are investigating a carjacking early Thursday morning at a Lawrenceville gas station.

According to police, officers responded to the Sunoco station at Penn Avenue and Main Street just before 2 a.m.

Surveillance video from the gas station shows a man walk into the convenience store and then run outside when another couple walks in.

The store manager said the carjacker walked up to the clerk, said he only had $1 and wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes. The clerk refused him.

A man and woman then walked into the store. That’s when police said the first man left the store and jumped into the couple’s running car.

Police said the clerk and couple went after the carjacker, who was seen holding a gun. The owner of the car then fired one shot at the vehicle in self-defense, police said.

The carjacker then fled the scene in the couple’s car.
